ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Your consumer alert is about your mailbox and the check that’s about to land in it. That’s right. Many of the parents reading this right now are going to get some early Christmas money. The governor and state legislature approved the stimulus checks as part of the 2023 budget. And while lots of budget measures have gotten lots of attention, this has not.
It’s called the Additional New York State and earned income tax payments. 1.75 million New Yorkers will see a one-time payment of $270 land in your mailbox before Halloween.
The governor says the relief package will help hardworking New Yorkers who are struggling to make ends meet because of the financial stresses of the pandemic and inflation. So I know what you’re asking. Who is eligible?
All parents who received the Empire State tax credit when you filed your 2021 taxes.
Parents of children 17 and under are eligible if you’re married and have a joint income is $110,000 or less or you’re single and make $75,000 or less. You’re also eligible if you received the earned income tax credit when you filed your taxes.
The federal income requirements vary depending on how many children you have. But the income range is a maximum of $21,430 for a single person without children or less to $57,414. That’s the maximum income for a couple with three or more children.
So to be clear, when you filed your taxes, if you got the Empire State child tax credit or the earned income tax credit or both, you’re eligible for this state stimulus check. The state is focusing on low to moderate-income taxpayers. You don’t have to do a thing to get the check. If you filed your taxes, you’ll get the money. Have you moved since you filed your taxes?
