ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — A 26-year-old Rochester resident was shot on Wednesday in what RPD said is an attempted carjacking.

Police said the man was shot at least once in the lower body and was transported to Strong Hosptial with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were called to investigate the area of Varden Street and Richland Street before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, for reports of someone shot and a woman yelling for help.

Police said no one is in custody yet and the suspects were unable to steal the car. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

So, how do you protect yourself if you’re ever the unfortunate victim of a carjacking?

Police recommend having tools to protect yourself, like pepper spray, a stun gun or a taser.

For those that have a license to carry, the weapon has to be accessible to you in the vehicle.

If worse comes to worst, authorities say giving up your car could save your life; let the police do their jobs to get justice.
