ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office held its annual wreath-laying ceremony Wednesday.

It’s in commemoration of Sheriff’s Week, which runs through Saturday.

News10NBC talked to the brother of Sergeant Robert Skelton Junior.

He was killed 50 years ago in 1972 while on patrol, hit by a drunk driver on Clover Street in Pittsford.

“Well he is well remembered by a lot of people, and as I was so pleased to find out 50 years ago, a lot of young people remember fondly my brother and what he did for them,” said Skelton.

This week highlights the contributions of deputies across New York while also paying tribute to members of law enforcement who have died in the line of duty.
