State police looking for suspects they say are part of an organized crime ring

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) – State Police say a "worldwide" crime ring are targeting several locations in western and central New York.

Investigators are looking for suspects in what they are calling a "quick change scam and sleight of hand jewelry thefts." They say one of the men in these surveillance photos purchased electronic items from Walmart and then ‘"confused" the clerk asking for change while making off with $1,600 each time.

Troopers say all four incidents happened at businesses near an interstate.

  • Walmart located at 3290 Sheridan Drive, T/Amherst on 01/25/22 at 11:30 a.m.
  • Walmart located at 3290 Sheridan Drive, T/Amherst on 01/26/22 at 8:30 p.m.
  • Walmart located at 4238 Recreation Drive, Canandaigua on 01/28/22 at 12:28 p.m.
  • M&T Bank located in the Elbridge area on 01/28/22 at 3:15 p.m.

The suspects were last seen in a black Chrysler minivan.

State Police say the suspects are part of the Roma organized crime group that travels worldwide.
