ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Salvation Army is currently on standby while the entire state of Florida is under a state of emergency as Hurricane Ian will cause significant damage to the state.
The Salvation Army has its mobile feeding unit on standby and disaster teams are waiting for the call for help before they head down to Florida.

If they go, they will be helping feed those in the community who have no access to food. The truck is built to go wherever disaster strikes. The team says it’s their job to help people get what they need and their communities rebuilt after the storm hits.
“At a command center or a core like here in the Northwest, food is prepared and then it’s kept warm and ready to distribute on the truck,” Salvation Army Rochester captain Jeremiah Eisley said. “So in times of disaster, command hubs are set up, whether by the government or by the Salvation Army. And we take food from those, quote-unquote, safer places and we distribute it to the places where they hit hard line with a catastrophe.”
So far the salvation army has already sent 37 mobile feeding units and has one field kitchen ready to go to help the people impacted by this storm.
