First Alert Weather: Spring is in the air this week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Much of the snow we picked up over the weekend has melted, thanks to some strong March sun and temperatures in the 40s and 50s on Monday. And there’s more of that to come this week.

A weak boundary draped over western New York tonight and Tuesday will drop our temperatures back into the 40s and reintroduce a few rain and wet snow showers, but nothing that’ll accumulate on Tuesday. Warmer air moves back into the region Wednesday through Friday, with highs well into the 50s on Wednesday, and well into the 60s on Thursday, then dropping back into the lower 60s by Friday.

The exception to the warmth will be along the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline, where light overall winds will allow a chilly lake breeze to develop, holding highs in the 30s and 40s there. We’ll also see a fair amount of sun returning both Wednesday and Thursday. So, you could say the luck of the Irish will be with us for St. Patrick’s Day this year!

Our next storm system approaches late Friday, bringing an increasing chance of rain showers late Friday and into Saturday. One thing we’re watching is the track of that area of low pressure. A slight push southward, and we may see some sloppy, wet accumulating snow on Saturday. A slight northerly shift and we’re all rain. So, this bears watching into the weekend. As it looks now, the arrival of Spring will come with a wintry feel. Spring officially arrives Sunday morning, but we may have a chill in the air and some snowflakes flying.
