County leaders announce “aggressive campaign” for social workers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Calling all critical social service workers. Monroe County leaders are offering a 7 percent salary increase for those positions, But that’s not all. Calling it an “aggressive campaign,” County Executive Adam Bello says, this campaign is for various service workers.

The theme of the project is “Your Community Needs You, Make A Difference.” This goes for examiners, child care workers, probation and more. Not only would this include salary increases, it would waive exam fees, and residency requirements for civil service exams.

During the launch of the campaign Friday, Bello said he feels there’s a “moral obligation” to do this for the community.

“Our child protective service workers in particular, have been underpaid, overworked, for decades, this was something, I talked about even when I was campaigning for this job, is that we have to add to the work force there because we’re talking about children’s lives, this is directly associated with public safety,” Bello said.

Bello added, the salary increase and waivers will come out of the county’s budget.
