ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Strong National Museum of Play, in partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), hosted a "Deaf Day for Play" on Sunday, March 20.

Those who are deaf or hard of hearing were able to experience most of the Strong Museum of Play with their own personal interpreter.

NTID students provided interpretation services at the museum for children who were in attendance. The interpreters will earn course credit and apply the knowledge and skills they have gained throughout their four-year bachelor’s degree program.

“We’re trying to build more of a community relationship. so we have rit and NTID’s sign language interpreting education program the ASLE program. We have a partnership with the strong museum of play to help promote and develop student interpreters who need more real-world experience," said Skip Flanagan, of NTID.

March is national deaf awareness month. The Strong says it strives to make the museum as accessible as possible to families of all abilities.
