First Alert Weather: Calm before the potential storm? Yellow Alert

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A cold northwest flow is kicking up some snow showers off the lake this morning. We will see some of these at times through midday before clearing this afternoon.

Amounts will be light with most of us just seeing a coating of snow but a few towns may pick up a fluffy inch or two. Most roads will be wet but some untreated roads will have a little snow cover at times and a few slick spots are possible.

A system will miss us south and east tomorrow with just clouds and some light rain or snow showers Rochester into the Finger Lakes. Steadier snow will be found east of us.

Quiet weather Thursday into Friday before a more significant system threatens for the start of the weekend (later Friday night into Saturday).

Guidance on the models has shown a track further to the east. This will bring a better chance for accumulating snow to the region.

Having said that, some of the models have shifted far enough east that the heavier snow now misses us to the east. We need to watch the latest model runs this morning and again tonight to see if they show a more consistent track and we can start to get a clearer picture of the potential impacts. At this time it looks cold and windy with some snow.

Too early to say how much but we could certainly be looking at plowable amounts of snow during the day Saturday. Once we get that clearer picture we may go ahead and issue a Yellow Alert for snow on Saturday either later today or tomorrow.

Stay tuned for updates on that storm threat right here on News10NBC.
