Exclusive News10NBC Poll: Inflation the biggest factor for voters in November

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – New Yorkers put inflation as the most influential factor in how they’re voting this November, according to an exclusive poll conducted by Survey USA for News10NBC and WNYT in Albany.

More than 2000 likely voters were asked which one issue will be most important in deciding how you vote for governor this fall. There was one answer that stood out:

• 32% Inflation
• 13% Guns
• 12% Criminal justice reform
• 11% Jobs
• 11% Healthcare
• 6% Abortion
• 6% Other
• 5% Climate change
• 5% Unsure

When asked which activities were being offset to deal with the higher prices, voters responded:

• 46% Driving less
• 39% Cutting back on food/groceries
• 64% Cutting back on eating out
• 55% Cutting back on activities and events
• 42% Canceling or delaying vacations and travel

Overall, respondents were split as to the economic outlook for their families over the next year, with 38% saying they’re optimistic, 39% pessimistic, and 23% not sure.

As for the race for governor itself, our poll results released Tuesday give Kathy Hochul a commanding lead both in the Democratic Primary and in hypothetical match-ups in November. The Republican primary is much closer, with Rep. Lee Zeldin and Andrew Giuliani within a few percentage points of each other, and more than 30% of GOP voters undecided.
