Gov. Hochul visits Rochester, outlines ‘New era’ for city

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State Governor Kathy Hochul was in Rochester Monday morning to speak about budget initiatives in the Finger Lakes region.

Hochul spoke at Monroe Community College, where she outlined a number of state investments, calling it a "New era" for the City of Rochester.

In total, $172.5 million of state funding would be used for projects in the Finger Lakes region. This is a part of Hochul’s $216 billion fiscal year 2023 budget proposal.

Some of the major announcements include:

• $100 million toward the Inner Loop North project
• $42.5 million toward the Seneca Park Zoo
• Additional $10 million for upgrades to Frontier Field

The $10 million for Frontier Field will be added to the $2.5 million the Rochester Red Wings already have for renovations that will mostly go toward more amenities in the clubhouse.

The Hochul administration had also previously committed $6 million in proposed funding to help the Rochester High Falls State Park project. On Monday, Hochul announced new concept plans and launched the public input phase for feedback. You can submit your own ideas by emailing ROCHighFallsPark@esd.ny.gov.

Hochul also announced $31 billion into education and $10 billion for the healthcare workforce.
