ROCHESTER, N.Y. Brigid Mulholland isn’t the first in her family to play goalie at Fairport High.
Her older sister Clare helped the team to a soccer section title five years ago. But soon after, she tore her ACL and the stage soon belonged to her younger sister.
“I always looked up to her,” Mulholland said. “So it was amazing that I was able to kind of go right where she was after that.”
Literally. After Clare helped the then-Red Raiders break a nine-year section championship drought, Brigid helped lead the program back to the top of the podium these last two years, all while being a part of several clubs, not the least of which is helping teach the game to children to with disabilities this past summer.
“Everyone’s so positive there,” she said. “Everyone just wants to learn and have fun. They love being together. It kind of just shows me how to be grateful for everything I have.”
She’ll be heading to Loyola University Maryland next year to study Pre-Med, staying on that path of wanting to give back.
Congrats to Fairport High’s Brigid Mulholland on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
