19-year-old hospitalized after shooting on city’s north side

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Rochester man is recovering in the hospital after being shot on the city’s north side Saturday night.

Rochester Police responded around 5:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the area of Backus Street.

As police were responding, another call came in for a man that was shot on Phelps Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found a 19-year-old man on Phelps Avenue that was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.

The man was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.

Investigators say the shooting occurred on Backus Street and the man ran to Phelps Avenue for help.

There are no suspects in custody at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact 911.
