ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Police Tuesday announced two arrests they’ve made in their investigation into a man who was stabbed and shot to death in the parking lot of a gas station on Portland Avenue last month.

It happened at 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 9. Kenneth Hightower, 24, was taken to URMC where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit says it identified 37-year-old Shannon Jones and 24-year-old Tyreese Jones as suspects and on Feb. 24, the United State Marshals Violent Felony Fugitive Task Force arrested Shannon on an outstanding warrant for violating his federal probation for a 2019 weapons and drug conviction.

Tuesday, police say the task force arrested Tyreese while he was leaving a house in the city of Rochester and both were charged in Hightower’s death.

Police say they believe Shannon stabbed Hightower and Tyreese shot him with a handgun. Both men were charged with second degree murder and Tyreese was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Both were arraigned Wednesday morning in Rochester City Court.
