44 animals seized from Steuben County property over conditions, owner charged

TROUPSBURG, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says a man is facing charges after 44 animals were removed from his property on County Route 84.

Joseph Duell, 51, of Troupsburg is charged with injuring and failing to provide sustenance to animals and failing to provide appropriate shelter for dogs left outdoors.

Dogs, cats, pigs, rabbits and a goat were seized on Oct. 25 and are now being cared for by the Finger Lakes SPCA and the Hornell Humane Society.

The sheriff’s office says Duell didn’t provide several of the animals adequate food or water or maintain proper shelter for several them.

Duell was released with an appearance ticket.
