FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — The community is celebrating the 45th annual Fairport Canal Days. People we spoke to said they’re so glad to be back.
"We live here in the village, it’s so nice to be able to walk down here, you hear so much music, we just heard the Fairport Jazz Band play and they were spectacular, it made our whole day," Fairport natives Dennis and Cookie Pierce said.
The event attracts thousands of people and will be up and running till Sunday. Nearly 150 art vendors from across the area had tents set up.
"COVID was horrible, I love being with all the people and telling them about my jewelry," Patti Van Hall said, who owns Handcrafted by Patti."
Also returning in 2022 for the seventh year, canal nights will keep the fun going after the art vendors wind down.
The popular duck race will also be back, to benefit the Fairport Perinton Merchants Association. That’s on Sunday at 3 p.m. on the lift bridge.
Of course, at every event people have their favorite activity. For some like you heard, it’s the music.
"The food, honestly, it’s the food," Dennis and Cookie said, laughing.
