ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Six people and two dogs managed to escape a multi-unit building fire Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

Rochester Fire Department says fire crews responded to 92 Comfort St. at around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon for a report of a fire. RFD says a fire was declared and an extra unit had to be called on due to the size of the house and the weather conditions.

Firefighters found fire on all levels of the home, and three hose lines had to be used to put the fire out. RFD says the fire was contained in about 40 minutes.

Six adults and two dogs living in the house were able to escape uninjured prior to the fire crew’s arrival.

Fire officials deemed the house uninhabitable. Red Cross is assisting the residents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
