GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — The acting police chief for the Town of Greece was in involved in a car accident Wednesday afternoon.

Greece Police issued a news release Thursday saying Acting Chief Jason Helfer called in the crash around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Kuhn Rd. and Country Place Lane. Greece Police say it appears another vehicle attempted to make a left-hand turn into a driveway when it turned into the path of Helfer’s vehicle. Helfer lost control and hit a telephone pole. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The other driver was not transported.

Greece Police say State Police were requested and the investigation was turned over to them. At this time, we have not heard of any charges or tickets being issued.

News10NBC has reached out to NYSP for more information and to Greece Police to clarify if Helfer was driving a town vehicle.

Former Greece Police Chief Drew Forsythe was involved in a single-car crash that totaled his town-issued vehicle in 2021. He resigned from the department and pleaded guilty to DWAI.
