PENFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — There’s a new place for affordable senior housing in Monroe County.

Tuesday the Gardens at Penfield Square project was officially completed.

The housing development has 114 apartments with some units set aside for supportive care households.

The setup will feature some special programs aimed at making the site accessible for most seniors.

"This new facility here is going to provide an awful lot of rooms," said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. "Again it’s affordable. But also connects it with supportive care. So that as our parents or grandparents get older, they’re also connected to services that they need to stay as independently as they can."

Across the street from the development is a public green space that will host special events and a farmer’s market.
