ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The New York State Assembly held a conference Tuesday afternoon on the Attorney General’s report concerning sexual harassment allegations against Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The 168-page report details the finding of the investigation into the claims from 11 different women that the governor sexually harassed them or otherwise behaved inappropriately. The investigation found that the governor sexually harassed multiple women in and out of state government and worked to retaliate against one of his accusers.
Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie said in a statement the Assembly will "move expeditiously and look to conclude our impeachment investigation as quickly as possible" once it receives "all relevant documents and evidence from the Attorney General".
Heastie’s statement also said, "it is abundantly clear to me that the Governor has lost the confidence of the Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office."
The New York State Assembly Judicial Committee, charged with investigating the impeachment of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, meets Monday morning in Albany.
Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the top Democrat in the State Senate, talked to NBC News about the governor on Wednesday night.
When asked if she believes there is any way that Cuomo can avoid impeachment, Stewart-Cousins said "No, I don’t believe he does."
"There are 11 credible women who have come forward courageously told their stories and those stories are corroborated by others," Stewart-Cousins said.
A majority of state Assembly members support beginning impeachment proceedings against Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he doesn’t resign.
