Baseball named New York’s ‘official sport’
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York already houses the Baseball Hall of Fame, and now, the sport known as "America’s past time" will now be recognized as the state’s official past time.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Friday to make the sport New York state’s official sport.
His office says the idea was proposed by a fourth-grade class based out of Cooperstown, where the Hall of Fame is.
The official sport joins milk as the official state beverage, apple as the official fruit, snapping turtle as the official reptile, and yogurt as the official snack.
Additionally, baseball is believed to have been "born" in New York.
