Batavia motorcyclist dies in crash

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Batavia man died from injuries after hitting a van Thursday night with his motorcycle.

Police say that around 5:20 p.m. on Route 5, a Ford van traveling westbound was turning left into Dave’s Ice Cream when an eastbound motorcycle struck the side of the van.

The motorcyclist, Gilberto N. Natal, 34, of Batavia was ejected into the van and the collision resulted in the van overturning onto its side.

Natal was transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The van was operated by Bruce P. Chilson, 80, of Spring Hill Florida. He and his wife Mary Chilson, 80, were transported to UMMC with minor injuries.

Charges may be pending. The accident is currently under investigation.
