ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — $12 million could be put aside to put in mandated repairs to Frontier Field in Rochester as part of Monroe County’s proposed 2022 budget, County Executive Adam Bello said Tuesday.

As part of his budget announcement, Bello said the move would make sure the Rochester Red Wings baseball team would be playing in the city next spring, and many springs in the future.

As we previously reported, requirements laid out by Major League Baseball, which partners with Minor League Baseball, mandate clubs make renovations to their stadiums by 2025, or face losing their teams.

Bello has said the stadium does not currently meet MLB’s new requirements, and would likely need upgrades to its lighting, training facilities, dugouts, and clubhouses, among other changes

While the work has a 2025 deadline, construction must begin by at least 2023.

The county previously put out a Request for Proposal for the project. Frontier Field hosted the Wings during the 2021 season after a year hiatus.

News10NBC is continuing to review the budget, and we will update you as we go through it.
