PEMBROKE, N.Y. (WHEC) — A box truck returning from a firework show exploded in Genesee County Saturday night.
The explosion happened just before midnight when a box truck that was returning from a fireworks show in Akron, went up in flames on South Lake Road in Pembroke.
Pembroke Assistant Fire Chief Edwin Mileham says he heard a loud explosion just as he was going to bed. A couple of minutes later, his pager went off.
Mileham, who lives about four miles from South Lake Road, says when he arrived on scene fireworks were exploding all over the place and the box truck was fully engulfed in flames.
"They were just exploding all over. Probably a good 1,000 feet of pieces of fireworks all over the road, into the yards of the residences along this route," Mileham said.
The driver was able to get out of the truck without injuries.
