Canandaigua woman charged with animal abandonment

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Canandaigua woman is facing animal abandonment charges after the Ontario County Humane Society says she tied a dog to a bush in front of the Ontario County Department of Social Services building in Hopewell and left her there.

It happened on Tuesday at around 5 p.m.

The Humane Society secured the 1-year-old black and white female shepherd mix, and on Wednesday, with the help of Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested 47-year-old Sherry Kern and charged her with animal abandonment.

She was given an appearance ticket and is due back in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
