PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) — Bear sightings in Pittsford are the talk of the town right now.

Town officials say it’s only one little black bear making its rounds.

Neighbors’ Ring camera video shows the bear walking through a couple of different back yards. He’s not destroying anything; he appears to just be satisfying his curiosity.

Town officials say they have called animal control, and they’ve been monitoring the bear’s tracks. It’s not uncommon for bears to be roaming this time of year, looking for food, leaving mom’s nest, or looking for a mate.

"Don’t provoke him, don’t interfere with him," Pittsford Town Supervisor Bill Smith. "He will find his way to where he needs to be. He will be looking for food along the way, so if you have bird feeders and if you’re in the area where the bear has been sighted, you should take them down until the bear has disappeared."

Town officials say the bear is not a threat to the community. The state Department of Environmental Conservation is keeping an eye on the bear to make sure he makes his way back home safely.
