Community rallies to get mattress for 14-year-old after bullet hit his air mattress

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The community really came together Friday night to help a family whose house was hit by gunfire.

It happened around 5 a.m. Friday on Maria Street.

Police say a 14-year-old narrowly escaped harm when a bullet hit the air mattress the teen was sleeping on.

Thankfully, the teen was not hurt, and the community and first responders stepped up to make the family more comfortable.

They partnered with Jamestown Mattress, Sleep City, Hegedorns, and Palmers.

That teen is sleeping on a brand new bed Friday night and the family’s grocery shopping is done.

Police are asking anyone with information on this shooting to call 911.
