WEBSTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Tuesday announced the start of a series of construction projects as part of the Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI).

REDI is providing $1.5 million to realign and raise Lake Road and add drainage for flood protection, as well as $750,000 a flood wall and shoreline flooding stabilization efforts at Sandbar Park and $250,000 for protective walls around a pump station to reduce damage to mechanical and electrical systems.

"There’s 12 acres down here in sandbar park that really for the last 20 years has not been developed," said Town Supervisor Tom Flaherty. "And this project is going to make one of the most unique parks in the whole state."

Flaherty said the project is also necessary to prevent flood damage in that area in the long run.

This work will include the demolition of the Bayside Pub.
