SOUTH BRISTOL, N.Y. (WHEC) — Crews battled a house fire in South Bristol Thursday morning.

The fire broke out at around 7:30 a.m. The 81-year-old homeowner noticed smoke in the hallway and dialed 911. The homeowner escaped, uninjured before firefighters arrived according to Ontario County Emergency Management Office (OCEMO).

The hot, humid weather made it difficult for crews to fight the fire, as well as the fact that the home is on a remote hillside so firefighters needed to haul water from remote sources.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the OCEMO said the preliminary results suggest an electrical item in a bedroom may have been the source.

The Naples, Bristol, Cheshire, Honeoye-Richmond, Middlesex, Atlanta and Rushville Fire Departments all responded.
