Crews respond to house fire with person trapped on Alexander Street in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) —The Rochester Fire Department (RFD) responded to call this afternoon of a house fire with a person trapped on the porch roof.
The fire occurred at 86 ½ Alexander St., a 2 1/2 story structure. According to RFD, the first company arrived within minutes and reported smoke coming from a residence in the rear of this location.
Firefighters quickly placed a ladder and removed the occupant trapped on the roof. Another occupant exited the smoke-filled structure as crews were beginning to advance hose lines inside. The occupant was examined by first responders for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters determined that the fire was located in the kitchen on the first floor. The fire was said to be under control in about 15 minutes, and the firefighters contained the fire damage to the first floor. According to RFD, the remainder of the home suffered smoke and some water damage. No responders were reported injured.
The Rochester Fire Investigation Unit is continuing its investigation into the cause.
