ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. (WHEC) — The New York State Attorney General’s Office is looking into how a man locked up in the Ontario County Jail died.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Friday said the man, who was not identified, was initially found unconscious and unresponsive in his cell Thursday morning. Corrections staff attempted to save him, and he was taken to FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua where he later died in the Intensive Care Unit.

The man’s body was taken to be examined by the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, as they work to figure out a cause of death. The OCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division is helping with the AG’s office.

The AG’s office confirmed the investigation in an email to News10NBC.
