PENN YAN, N.Y. (WHEC) — Yates County deputies say a portion of a Penn Yan home caught fire Tuesday after it was hit by a lightning strike.
Crews went to the home around 9 p.m. for a report of a house fire. Deputies say the homeowner reported hearing a loud crack of thunder and then noticed smoke coming from the roof of the house.
When crews got to the home, they saw the smoke as well as flames coming out of part of the second floor. Crews were able to contain the fire to the corner of the home.
A similar incident happened on July 2, when lighting hit a home and caused a fire in Webster. The fire destroyed the home.
As for the Penn Yan fire, no injuries were reported.
