Deputies: Lyons man facing charges after failing to get medical care for his dog

LYONS, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Wayne County man is facing animal cruelty charges after deputies say a dog in his care was in such poor condition, the dog had to be euthanized.

Deputies say they responded to a complaint that a dog at a Butternut Street apartment in Lyons was in an unhealthy condition.

The dog was found in the garage with open wounds on his neck that were covered in maggots and flies. The dog was taken to the Lyons Veterinary Clinic, where they attempted to care for him. Deputies say the dog was in such poor condition, he had to be euthanized.

Calan W. Lopinto, 51, of Lyons was charged with one count of failing to provide proper sustenance. He was given an appearance ticket and is due in Town of Lyons Court at a later date.
