PERINTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Wayne County man is facing charges after the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says he tried to get into three different vehicles in a span of just 15 minutes Tuesday morning.
Deputies say during one of those instances, he approached a woman who was sitting in her car in the Perinton Wegmans parking lot at around 8:40 a.m. and told her he needed money and a ride to the airport.
Deputies say the woman got out of the car on her own but did not give him any money, and that while she was out of the car, the man stole her cell phone from the pocket of the coat she was wearing and tried to get into the car, but the doors were locked.
He walked off after failing to get into her car, deputies say.
Maurice J. Brown, 26, of Lyons was arrested for the incident and charged with third degree robbery.
Deputies say they took him into custody without incident and he was arraigned in Perinton Town Court, but he was released on his own recognizance since third degree robbery is a non-bail qualifying offense.
