Deputies: Rochester man arrested, 3 suspects outstanding after car theft in Penfield

PENFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has made one arrest, but are still looking for three suspects after they say four men stole a car that its owner was trying to sell on Facebook Marketplace.

It happened on Sunday at the owner’s home on Walnut Hill in Penfield just after 4:30 p.m.

Deputies say the owner made arrangements for potential buyers to come over to see the car, a 2014 Honda CRV, at his house. Four people wearing face masks arrived in a 2009 Kia Spectra.

The owner of the Honda had left the car parked in the driveway with the keys in the ignition and the car running and the men were talking about the car when deputies say three of the men got into the Honda and drove away.

The MCSO says deputies were responding to the owner’s 911 call when the Kia was involved in a crash near Browncroft Boulevard and Creek Street. Deputies responded to the crash and found the driver of the Kia, who they say was Jordan Brooks, 20, of Rochester.

Deputies say the Kia turned out to be stolen too.

Brooks was charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property for the Kia and third degree grand larceny and third degree unauthorized use of a vehicle for the Honda according to deputies.

Deputies say they found the stolen Honda later on Fairgate Street in Rochester and Brooks was remanded to the Monroe County Jail on an outstanding assault warrant.
