Fairport Board of Education discusses masks during special workshop meeting

FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Fairport’s Board of Education had a special workshop meeting Thursday night where the issue of face masks in the classroom came up.

Questions were brought up about if masks should go away if vaccinations or cases get to a certain level.

Some said it should be left up to New York or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nothing concrete was decided.

The mask mandate case will be back in Appellate Court Friday for a hearing.

The court will eventually decide if the state and Gov. Kathy Hochul overstepped their authority with the statewide indoor mask requirement.

A Nassau County Judge Monday ruled that the sweeping mandate was unconstitutional, but the state filed an appeal Tuesday morning and an Appellate Court judge granted a stay, allowing the mandate to remain until at least Friday as the appeals process continues.
