ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Sunshine fills the skies early this Saturday morning, and that will mainly continue for today.
Temperatures are also on the milder side of things and we will turn hot once again this afternoon. Mostly sunny skies and highs near 90 are what is expected for today. It will be a touch humid this afternoon which will make it feel a bit warmer with heat indices likely in the mid 90s at times this afternoon.
A few clouds will bubble this afternoon, and a few could pop into a shower or rumble of thunder for areas south of Rochester. Then a better chance for showers and storms will arrive on Sunday.
A Yellow Alert remains in effect from the First Alert Weather Team for Sunday as there is a greater chance for widespread showers and storms with a few strong storms possible. A warm front will lift through by the middle of the day Sunday and bring a few showers and storms along with it, but mainly set the stage for strong storms later in the day.
A few isolated storms that could be strong will be possible in the afternoon on Sunday, but a greater chance for strong storms will arrive late Sunday afternoon and through the evening hours. Storm chances will continue into late Sunday night before a cold front swings through and leaves behind a few isolated rain showers for Monday morning.
Our severe threat will diminish after the cold front swings through. Storms tomorrow afternoon and night will have the capability of producing strong gusty winds, small hail, and even a small chance for a brief spin up of a tornado.
Also on Sunday, it will once again feral much warmer as we remain humid. highs tomorrow afternoon will reach 90 degrees once again and it will feel like the mid 90s with the muggy conditions in place. Although this cold front will bring us a chance for strong storms tomorrow, it will also bring us relief from the heat and humidity by Monday afternoon with much more comfortable conditions expected.
