First Alert Weather: Hot and stormy week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Summer has made a return in a big way this week. Heat Advisories are up for the entire region through Wednesday evening.

The combination of air temperatures in the lower 90s and dew points in the upper 60s and lower 70s will make it feel well into the 90s, and quite uncomfortable during peak heating. No records are expected to fall, but the heat will wear on people much of this week.

Tuesday will feature an increased threat of some storms by late afternoon and evening. A few of these storms may produce gusty winds and locally heavy rain. Storm chances will be slightly lower on Wednesday, followed by another round of storms Thursday and Friday as a cold front approaches. This cold front will finally bring some relief from the heat and humidity by the weekend, with lower humidity and dry weather.

A Yellow Alert is up for the heat and storm threat Tuesday, but the rest of the week needs to be monitored for the potential for more impactful weather. We’ll keep you updated right here online and on-air.
