First Alert Weather: Just enough snow earlier today to remind us that it is winter

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A weak low-pressure system brought some light snow this afternoon with just enough accumulation to make for some slick roadways. The early evening will continue to be slippery in spots as a light amount of freezing drizzle is possible.

Watch for untreated roads and walkways as they will be icy in spots. However, this will not last as the temperature will be rising overnight. We expect that by early to mid-evening the temperature will rise above freezing and will continue to climb overnight with the mercury approaching 40 degrees after midnight.

Tuesday will bring some drier air into Western New York for the morning. We may see skies brighten for the first half of the day with more clouds and the chance of a rain or wet snow shower later in the afternoon. The temperature will reach the upper 30s to near 40 degrees once again. There will be a few rain and wet snow showers with an inch or less of accumulation expected south of Rochester by morning.

Most of the big winter storms are having an impact on the western states and these storms weaken significantly as they move east. This trend is likely to continue through this last week of 2021. The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists see mainly dry weather and above normal temperatures for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The temperature for each day will be in the low to middle 40s, which is more typical for the middle to the end of November. We look to ring in the new year with mainly dry weather and a temperature in the low 30s. New Year’s Day will bring a few light rain and wet snow showers later in the day. Once again it will be warmer than normal with the temperature in the low 40s.

It appears the weather pattern will finally begin to change later Sunday and Monday. There is the potential for a more vigorous storm heading for the northeast. There is still a great amount of uncertainty as to the speed and track of the storm, as a result, the impact is not clear. However, we are more confident that some much colder weather will be arriving in Western New York for early next week.
