First Alert Weather: More steamy air Thursday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — We’re going to continue our late summer heat & humidity on Thursday, before a brief break on Friday.

Heat Advisories remain up for the entire region on Thursday. Air temperatures will once again flirt with 90, with dew points feeling tropical in the lower to mid-70s. This will make it feel more like the mid to upper 90s for a few hours Thursday afternoon and early evening. We’ll see a slightly better chance of some rain and t-storms Thursday afternoon, but once again most of the day will be rain-free.

A weak cold front will slowly drop through the area on Friday, switching our winds to the northeast. This will bring a brief break in the heat, dropping highs back into the upper 70s and lower 80s. A few showers may still linger, as that front is quite slow to move through.

Heat and humidity return this weekend. We won’t hit 90, but the mid-80s are in the forecast both Saturday and Sunday, with high humidity once again. Both days will feature scattered showers and some thunder, with Sunday perhaps ending up the drier day at this point.

Another stronger cold front will move through on Monday, finally bringing a longer stretch of lower heat and humidity starting on Tuesday of next week, with a good deal of sun and mainly dry weather. The one thing that may need to be watched is the potential for a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico next week. This may change the larger-scale pattern and have an impact on our weather next week.

The First Alert Weather Team will keep you posted right here online and on-air.
