ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Just a gorgeous summer-like day in Western New York.

The unofficial high temperature at the Rochester Airport was 81 degrees which is just 2 degrees off the record high for the day. Would it surprise you that this will not last? It will not happen all at once but expect a slow, gradual deterioration in the overall weather conditions over the next couple of days. This change will come with the arrival of a slow-moving cold front which will move closer to Rochester during the next 24 hours. Initially, it will be the arrival of wet weather and eventually sharply colder temperatures by mid-week.

Tonight look for a lovely evening with some high clouds or fair skies. It will be a very mild night with the low temperature within a few degrees of 60. Monday will start with hazy sunshine, but clouds will be increasing with showers becoming more numerous in the afternoon. There is a chance of a thunderstorm by late afternoon and evening. In addition, there will likely be a few heavy downpours. We will continue to track these storms, but at this point, the storms should not be severe. The temperature is expected to be in the upper 70s before the rain arrives.

The first of two cold fronts will cross the area over the next 48 hours. As a result, the rain showers will taper for Monday night, but it will turn much cooler with the low in the upper 40s by morning. Then it will be back to reality for Tuesday with breezy and seasonably cool weather. Look for a mix of clouds, and limited sun with a spotty shower. The temperature will only rise into the middle 50s. Wednesday the temperature will continue to fall with readings only in the low to mid-40s. This will be cold enough for passing rain and wet snow showers.

Right now the News 10NBC First Alert meteorologists expect little or no accumulation. Look for more sunshine to return by Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. However, it will remain rather cool right into the start of next weekend.
