ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A ridge of high pressure will continue to build across the great lakes in the coming days.
This is a slow-moving weather system which means an extended period of dry, sunny weather. It will be rather cool, especially during the evening hours, but warmer weather is expected to overspread Western New York in the coming days.
Tonight will bring mainly clear, starlit skies, and with the dry air and progressively lighter winds, it will turn very cool overnight. The News10NBC First Alert meteorologists expect the temperature to fall through the 40s and eventually into the upper 30s later tonight. As a result, there is a frost advisory in effect for all of the area—especially away from Lake Ontario and the city of Rochester. If you have sensitive plants it is recommended to cover the plants or bring them inside any time after midnight.
If you are heading out to the Lilac Festival for mother’s day, you can plan on sunshine throughout the day. The morning will start out very cool, but temperature readings will quickly rise through the 40s and 50s. By the afternoon the mercury will climb to within a few degrees of 60 and with the dry air and light breeze, it will be a very enjoyable end to the weekend.
However, even though the weekend comes to an end, the nice weather keeps coming! Look for at least another five to seven days of beautiful weather with gradually warmer temperatures. Sunshine continues through the week with the temperature rising into the middle 60s on Monday and into the 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday. In fact, it may feel like summer by the end of the week with readings near 80 degrees by Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It appears to be an extended period of dry sunny weather for Rochester!
