First Alert Weather: Several rounds of storms this week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Our last Monday of July was a beautiful one, with classic summer warmth and dry weather.

That’ll be changing by Tuesday, with the first in a series of fronts bringing storm chances to the area. We’ll keep a mainly clear sky tonight with temperatures dropping into the lower and mid-60s. Tuesday starts off with some sun, but clouds will increase as a cold front approaches.

Moisture isn’t overly impressive with this front, so the rain threat will be spotty. That being said, a few isolated storms will develop, and any storm may produce briefly gusty winds.

The front clears the area by Wednesday morning, leaving us with temperatures in the 70s and more clouds around, along with a few isolated showers. Thursday looks to be the wettest and most unsettled day of the bunch, with another front moving through, that may once again bring more storms. The timing is still questionable, but a few of these storms may be strong with gusty winds.

The First Alert Weather team will monitor the severe storm threat, and issue a Yellow Alert if needed. Following the passage of Thursday’s front, a pocked of progressively cooler air aloft will work into the Northeast. This will mean cooler than average temperatures and some pop up midday and afternoon showers Friday through early next week.

Not a washout: Despite frequent rain chances through the next week, much of the time will be rain-free with intervals of sun. The more noticeable aspect of our weather will be the cooler air. Highs will drop into the 70s for highs by Friday, and may not make it out of the 60s early next week. This also means overnight lows will be fresh and cool. So, we can give our air conditioners a nice long break starting this weekend, with an early fall feel to the Western New York air.
