ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Winter will loosen its brief grip over the Northeast starting tonight. High pressure builds back in, which will clear our sky.

Now, that means it’ll be a chilly night, with many spots dropping into the 20s away from Lake Ontario, but it also means an abundance of sunshine returns by Thursday morning. In fact, the sun will be our main weather story right into the weekend. We’ll see a nearly flawless blue sky Thursday, Friday and Saturday before some clouds begin to filter back in on Sunday.

Temperatures will be slower to recover, with highs in the upper 40s on Thursday, mid-50s on Friday, upper 50s on Saturday, and lower 60s by Sunday.

This beautiful pattern will begin to break down by Monday of next week, with our next chance of rain arriving late Sunday into Monday. That being said, we should still be on the mild side of things, with highs peaking on Monday near 70. We’ll turn a little more unsettled and a little cooler through the middle of next week. Until then, grab the sunglasses and the sunscreen if you have plans to be outdoors for a few hours this weekend! It may not feel like it with the cooler air, but the strength of the sun in late April is the same as mid-August sunshine.
