ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Flower City Habitat for Humanity Friday completed its hundredth home.
The home on Jay Street in downtown Rochester’s JOSANA neighborhood was presented to Natasha Gomez Friday afternoon.
She spent hundreds of hours working on it and showed her kids for the first time.
"This is a new start, a new beginning for us, you know," Gomez said. "I’ve tried really hard to hide it from them the whole process, so I know my kids are very excited. We’re in a two-bedroom apartment right now, they share rooms and my kids are getting big so they need their own space, so I’m just excited to just surprise them."
This marks a significant milestone, fulfilling a commitment to the city of Rochester made in 2011 to build 100 homes within a half-mile of School 17 and work to eliminate substandard and poverty housing.
