ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — For the first time ever, the average gas price in all 50 states is more than $4.000 per gallon of regular gas.
That’s according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
Its map of this week’s average gas prices lists the lowest average price per gallon of regular gas at $4.006 in Kansas and the highest at $6.021 per gallon in California.
The nationwide average is $4.523 per gallon of regular gas as of Tuesday—up 31 cents from a month ago and $1.89 from a year ago.
New York’s average gas price is slightly above that at $4.805 per gallon according to AAA. A year ago, it was $3.060 per gallon of regular gas in New York.
AAA said the price is being driven up because of the high cost of oil and a lack of refining capacity.
