Former SUNY Geneseo student sentenced on sex abuse charges
GENESEO, N.Y. (WHEC) — A former SUNY Geneseo student was sentenced Thursday after sexually assaulting another student on campus in 2014.
Philip Pang, 28, of Woodside NY, was sentenced to thirteen years with the Department of Corrections and a maximum of twenty years of post-release supervision for a conviction of criminal sexual act in the first degree. Pang was convicted after a July 2021 jury trial of criminal sexual act in the first degree and two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. Judge Noto sentenced Pang to four years with the Department of Corrections and the maximum of ten years of post-release supervision for the two counts of Sexual Abuse in the first degree. Those sentences will be served concurrently.
Pang was arrested for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old college freshman on the SUNY Geneseo campus where he was a student.
According to the Livingston County District Attorney, the crime was reported to campus authorities in 2014, but wasn’t fully investigated until 2019 when the victim reported the crime to members of the New York State Police Campus Sexual Assault Unit.
