ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The counties gave an update on COVID-19 cases Thursday.
The two share resources. All of these numbers are as of Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022.
Public Health Director Paul Pettit said that Genesee County had 1,509 cases in December. So far in January, Genesee County has had 2,118 cases.
In Orleans County, there were 938 total cases in December. There have been 1,125 in January.
The CDC currently lists both counties as areas of "high transmission."
Pettit says his department didn’t get as many home rapid tests from New York State as they were supposed to. However, he says they are expecting more to come soon.
"We fought hard. Everybody knows, we’ve talked about the inability to have rural testing, particularly, throughout this entire pandemic. this is really one of the first opportunities we’ve had…. a state-sponsored, free testing site for our residents," Pettit said.
Genesee Community College’s Albion Campus Center has a testing center that is open form 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. Click here to make an appointment.
