Good Question: Do you still have to follow the travel advisory after getting vaccinated?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Here’s a good question about New York’s travel quarantine rules.

This is what many of you want to know: "Once I receive both doses of the vaccine do I still have to follow the NYS Travel Advisory?"

We took that issue to both Governor Cuomo’s office and the New York State Department of Health. A DOH spokesperson told News10NBC:

"The state is making tremendous progress in vaccinating eligible new yorkers despite a woefully insufficient allotment from the federal government. As it has from the beginning, science and data will continue to drive all decisions on managing this pandemic, including the travel advisory which is still in place and has been since June."

So, based on that, the answer is yes, at least for now. Anyone getting vaccinated in the early phases will still have to follow the state’s quarantine rules. Part of the reason for that, as we’ve told you, is because health experts believe the vaccine can keep you from getting sick with covid symptoms.

But there isn’t enough evidence when it comes to asymptomatic people spreading the virus, even after getting the vaccine.
