Good Question: Update on YMCA of Greater Rochester membership refunds

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC has received a lot of questions about membership refunds after the coronavirus shutdowns.

One viewer asked us, "What’s the situation with the YMCA and their billing and crediting since they’ve been shut down due to COVID-19?"

Going back to March, the YMCA issued notices. Members could get credits for before or after-school programs their kids were enrolled in, like youth sports and aquatics.

For regular gym members, you could consider your monthly dues a donation to the YMCA or put your membership on hold until branches reopened.

Most YMCA branches reopened back on Aug. 28, and that automatically re-activated members’ accounts.

Three more YMCA branches are reopening on Monday, including Bay View in Webster, Carlson MetroCenter in downtown Rochester and the Northwest YMCA in Greece.

News10NBC also found out the YMCA is looking to begin youth sports and swim lessons for members only in November.

For those who donated their dues, you can get a form to write it off on your taxes.

If you were billed and want a refund for the months the YMCA was closed, all you need to do is contact your local YMCA branch.
